Out There Art Festival
August 29 - Sept 6, 2021
A physically-distanced festival celebrating interactive and community art.
Quadra Village - Lekwungen Territory
Brought to you by Alter Arts Society, in collaboration with HQ Collective.
Celebrate community and the arts.
We're all in this together.
What You Get
Funds raised through ticket sales will directly benefit artists, who have been especially hard hit by COVID-19.
Curated Local Art Walking Tour
An exclusive audio walking tour, featuring local historian Vincent Gornall, of Vincent’s Victoria.
An Exclusive Art Map
A map of over 100 new and existing art installations on display at homes and businesses throughout the neighbourhood, including interactive and community art that you can contribute to!
An Opportunity to Support Artists
The artists who enliven our communities need our support now, more than ever! We have relied on them to get us through long days of self-isolation. Purchasing a ticket to the Out There Art Festival is a safe, physically-distanced way to give back.
A Shared Experience to Remember
Experience the wonderful, quirky eccentricity of Quadra Village again for the first time. Let us introduce you and the other members of your household to temporary installations, and permanent displays that you've never noticed before, in a delightful shared experience.
Pop-up Performances
Weekend performances brought to you by talented performers from Theatre SKAM, Pacific Opera Victoria, and The Rising Circus will be popping up in the neighbourhood during the festival.
Get Involved
Bringing the festival to you.
Share your art with the world!
Join us, and perform or display your community, interactive, or other public art for all to enjoy for ten days this summer. Fill out our online form to tell us about your work, and let us know about space and other requirements. All forms of art are welcome, including performances, sculpture, projections, plant art, fibre arts--art that the community can interact with or help to create is particularly encouraged. Revolutionary art and art by Black, people, Indigenous people, People of Colour, and newcomers is especially welcome.
We will do our best to match you with a space in Quadra Village where you can perform, or your work will be displayed, along with an artist profile.
There are no fees to participate, and proceeds from ticket sales go directly to artists!
If you need to be matched with a host, be sure to submit your art by Friday, August 13, 2021 to be included on the map!
BE the art gallery!
Do you live in or near Quadra Village? Host some art where you live!
Feature an art work on your balcony, in your window, on your front lawn, or in another space visible from the street for 10 days this summer. Fill out our online form to be matched with a local artist, and help their work be seen!
Want to take it to the next level? Enter your home in a draw for the opportunity to have it decorated like a parade float for the duration of the festival. Artist will be hired to complete the project, and will share their design ideas with you.
Artists will be responsible for setting up, maintaining, and removing their work.
We need your help to make the Out There Art Fest a reality!
We are looking for volunteers to help with:
- writing artist profiles

Artists and hosts are needed to make this event a success!
This temporally and physically distanced art festival will take place on the stolen territories of the Lekwungen people, now known as the Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations.
As uninvited visitors to these territories, we respectfully seek opportunities to learn about Indigenous relationships with these lands. We are committed to questioning existing power structures, and supporting the decolonization of our society and institutions and Indigenous self-determination however we can.
